In The Blink Of An Eye

I won’t bore you with the statistics because you wouldn’t believe me.  All the numbers on aging are mind-numbing. For example, women live about five years longer than men and are far more likely to suffer from Alzheimer’s disease.

But let’s think about your situation, which is far more pressing.  Aging creeps up on you and the next thing you know it’s bitten you where the sun don’t shine.  None of us really think about getting old until we are.  And in that old age many good, bad and ugly things can happen.  I remember the brain surgeon telling my wife to imagine herself in a wheelchair being pushed by me or her son if she didn’t get the medical procedure.  Natural physical deterioration is nothing new, but how do you deal with it?  If you are unable to fully take care of yourself what will you do?  I did see myself pushing my wife’s wheelchair, and encouraged her to do the procedure.

I know all too well how a situation like this can occur and the benefits derived from planning, anticipating and setting a course for the purpose of bodily or mental deterioration can be a true life-saver.

Whether you’re single or married, it’s important to face the kind of statistics readily available on a google search.  I know both the benefits and costs relating to long term care protection.  One client, in particular, bought a protection policy for his wife and paid the premiums for a number of years.  Unfortunately, the day came when he called informing me that his spouse of decades had been admitted to the Alzheimer Unit where they live.  He asked me to have the long term care protection put in effect ASAP.

I’ll leave you with this thought, you can do all the analysis, add, subtract, multiply and divide, and come to the conclusion that it is worth adding this protection.  The longer you procrastinate on this purchase, the higher the price, both financially and literally.  As I said, aging is full of good, bad and ugly.  I guarantee you will be thankful you took the proper steps to protect yourself and your family from years of remorse.
